Preparing your Quilt Top and Backing
- Your quilt Top and Backing should be clean and pressed. If dropping your quilt off to LULU’S Creative Corner, please place it on a hanger instead of folding it up.
- All seams should be flat – OPEN SEAMS preferred but not necessary.
- Trim all excess seams and points.
- All threads should be clipped and removed, or they may show through.
- All basting threads and pins should be removed.
- Mark the TOP EDGE of your quilt Top and Backing fabric with the labels supplied on the second page of the Order Form. Cut the Labels apart and use a safety pin to attach them to your quilt Top and Backing fabric.
- Quilt Backing and Batting should be 8 inches longer AND wider on each side of quilt Top. All edges should be even. To get the 8 inches for backing and batting, add 16 inches to the height and width of the quilt Top.
- Quilt Backing must be square. This means that the backing top and bottom edges must be parallel to each other and the corners 90-degree angles, each side measuring the same length (measuring the same amount in 3 places in both directions). It is preferrable to have the top and bottom edges of the quilt backing be on the selvage. This helps ensure the quilt rolls evenly on my longarm machine.
- If Quilt Backing is pieced, use a ½ inch seam (trim away the selvage edges).
- Quilt Top must be flat and square with no fullness in the blocks. If the blocks are not square and the same size throughout the quilt Top, it will have puckers. If, in the process of loading / quilting the quilt, puckers are found, it will be at the discretion of the longarm quilter to determine how to proceed with the quilt.
